The Gilbane Group develops and distributes white papers that provide information technology vendors with a vehicle for educating the corporate community on the business benefits of their technology. The papers are published under The Gilbane Group banner, a brand associated with the highly respected and widely read publication covering technology and trends in content, computing, and commerce. The papers are underwritten by vendor sponsors, who are featured on the cover page of the paper, in the paper itself, and in the white paper section of the Gilbane web site. The papers are not product reviews, nor are they product promotions; however, products may be discussed or described in the content of the paper.
Benefits of Publishing a Gilbane Group White Paper
- Credible, clear, and concise communication of the sponsor’s class of technology and the problems it solves.
- Exposure to tens of thousands of IT and business managers, corporate decision-makers, investors, analysts, and industry influencers worldwide who depend on the Gilbane Report for up-to-date, accurate, and objective insights into information technologies and trends. Access to our highly targeted, opt-in audience is not available through any other channel. Plus, our sponsored white papers reach an audience that is much larger than those of other analyst firms because we do not limit distribution to our clients only and because we actively promote the papers to the corporate end-user community.
- Twelve-month placement of the sponsored white paper and a link to the sponsor’s web site on gilbane.com. This is a smarter investment than placing banner ads on high traffic/low interest sites crowded with other ads, or on small sites with limited reach. Our award-winning site is both targeted and well-trafficked. We are especially widely read in the content management and XML communities.
- Unlimited distribution rights (of the complete paper) in electronic and print form. Extracts may also be used freely as long as there is attribution and a link to gilbane.com is included.
- A sponsor information page attached to the white paper that includes contact information, corporate description, mission statement, and other similar information.
- Publication in the “sponsored” section of the Gilbane website. New papers are featured on our home page with a link to the sponsored section.
The combination of informative, high-value content, the Gilbane brand, and the promotion features of our white paper service makes it one of the best investments a technology company can make in market education. In addition, the built-in advertising that our sponsors receive through the program is often significantly less than the cost of a single traditional advertising campaign.
As an optional, additional-cost service, we can also participate in a web seminar covering the white paper topic. This value-added service is an opportunity to leverage the paper for demand generation. The seminar is hosted by our sponsor, which gives the vendor the opportunity to capture leads for both registrants and actual attendees. We promote our participation, giving our sponsor visibility within the highly targeted Gilbane Report audience.

The White Paper Development Process
We begin by working with our sponsor to identify a mutually agreed upon topic. We then schedule a meeting or conference call with the sponsor in order to gather input from the stakeholders. Next we deliver a draft outline for the sponsor’s review and approval. Once we receive comments and feedback, we finish our background research and begin the writing process. We deliver a detailed draft for the sponsor’s review, and then incorporate comments and suggestions to produce the final draft.
White papers are eight to twelve pages in length. They include graphics created by our author and/or by the sponsor. Sponsor-contributed graphics receive attribution. The white paper is delivered in Adobe PDF.
The typical timeframe from signed agreement to publication is between four to six weeks, depending on topic and assuming prompt turnaround time for comments by the sponsor.
